Preparation

Preparing for a technology job fair

What technology employers ask for, and what to have ready before your interview.

  1. A portfolio or GitHub link

One link, ready to paste into the chat or read out. Employers hiring developers and analysts will ask for it before they ask anything else.

  2. Your stack, honestly

Name the languages and tools you use every week, then the ones you have touched. Overstating a stack costs the interview once the questions start.

  3. One project you can walk through

Five minutes on what it does, what you built and what you would change. It is the most common technical question at a hiring event.

  4. Your questions for them

Team size, on-call expectations, remote or hybrid, and the stack they are moving to. The answers decide whether the offer is right for you.

  5. Be ready for video, in person, or phone

Your confirmation says which. For video, a quiet space and a camera test, and be ready to share your screen. For in person, the address and parking are in the confirmation; arrive ten minutes early. For phone, a number you can answer at the confirmed time.
