Preparation

Preparing for an entry-level job fair

What employers hiring entry-level roles ask for, and what to have ready before your interview.

  1. No experience needed, so say what you have done

School, volunteering, a family business, a side job. Employers here are hiring for reliability and attitude; give them something concrete to ask about.

  2. Your availability

Days, shifts and a start date. For many of these roles it is the first question and the one that decides the offer.

  3. Two references

A teacher, a coach or a previous manager who can be contacted this week. Have their phone numbers ready.

  4. Documents for the offer stage

Photo ID and proof you can work in the US. You will not need them at the interview, but offers here can come the same day.

  5. Be ready for video, in person, or phone

Your confirmation says which. For video, a quiet space, a charged phone or laptop, and a camera test five minutes before. For in person, the address and parking are in the confirmation; arrive ten minutes early. For phone, a number you can answer at the confirmed time.
